ZURICH, Could 5 (Reuters) – Over 500 kg (1,102 lb) of cocaine estimated to be value greater than 50 million Swiss francs ($50.65 million) have been present in a container of espresso bean luggage for Nestle’s (NESN.S) Nespresso manufacturing unit in Romont in western Switzerland, the cantonal police mentioned on Thursday.
Police had been knowledgeable on Monday evening by Nespresso that workers had discovered an undefined white substance whereas unloading luggage of espresso beans that had simply arrived from Brazil, the police mentioned in a press release. Analyses confirmed the substance was cocaine.
“The substance in query didn’t come into contact with any of our merchandise or manufacturing tools used to make our merchandise,” Nespresso mentioned in an emailed assertion.
“As a police investigation is underway, we can not share extra particulars. We need to reassure customers that each one our merchandise are protected to devour,” the maker of single-serve espresso capsules mentioned.
